Power of Sports | Community Spotlight - Best of Season 2

Powering Forward

Over the last 12 months, Power of Sports has traveled the country, telling stories of local nonprofits that are using sports to impact the lives of kids in their communities.

This month, we’re looking back on those stories and featuring our favorites in a special “Best Of Community Spotlight” episode.

Season 2, Show 1 – i play! Afterschool

Our season premiere opened with i play! Afterschool, an after-school program that teaches sports fundamentals by providing coaching, equipment, and nutrition and character-building lessons to kids from 48 inner-city schools.

Created by nonprofit organization San Antonio Sports, i play! Afterschool focuses on sports, nutrition, and accountability that creates a foundation of active living and strong character.

Season 2, Show 3 – Back On My Feet

Back in November, we showed you how the national non-profit organization Back On My Feet uses the sport of running to combat homelessness while offering employment and housing resources to over 4,000 members.

Over the course of 12 years, Back On My Feet has cleared a path for thousands of homeless people helping 90% of their alumni maintain employment and 60% earn wage increases.

Season 2, Show 6 – Craig Willinger Fund

In Baltimore, we introduced you to the Craig Willinger Fund, a charity foundation that brings hope and healing to young soccer fans battling cancer by creating once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to see their favorite teams.

In less than a decade, the fund has brought joy and emotional healing to 13 young soccer fans battling cancer while upholding the legacy and mission of their late founder.

These are just a few of the many Community Spotlight stories we have had the honor of telling.

Stay tuned as we continue to travel the country in search of local organizations that are using the power of sports to change lives.
