In this segment of City Pulse, we take you across the state of North Carolina to see how professional sports organizations like the Carolina Panthers and the Charlotte Hornets are changing their local communities.
Each show airs monthly on FOX Sports Southwest and participating FOX Sports regional networks. Check local listings for availability and show times.
In our 28th episode of Power of Sports, we featured the first City Pulse segment to focus an entire state instead of one city.
We took a journey across Tobacco Road to show you how teams and professional sports organizations across North Carolina are using sports to make the state a better place to live.
First, we chatted with the Carolina Panthers.
The Carolina Panthers created a video series as a free resource for classroom teachers and parents.
The 3rd and Goal program is designed to encourage a love of reading for students in K-3 with the goal of helping students develop grade-level reading proficiency skills by the end of 3rd grade.
Essentially, the program allows teachers to invite players into their classrooms and read stories directly to their students.
In partnership with Bank of America, the Hornets honor military service members and veterans for their unwavering service to our country.
They achieve this by having volunteers pack care kits alongside Hornets players, executives and fans.
Each kit is packed with essential wellness items and personalized notes.
This way, members in the military not only receive the items they need.
But the thanks and well wishes they deserve.
Finally, we stopped by the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame’s Salute To Student-Athlete Program.
The initiative invited student-athletes from across the state to the Raleigh Convention Center.
There, they witnessed the newest class of athletes get inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame.
More than 700 high schoolers have been a part of the program over the last three years.
Power of Sports is presented by Group1001 and hosted by sports industry insider Rick Horrow.
