Power of Sports | Fields & Futures - A Coach That Cares

A Coach Like No Other

Mentor. Older sister. Best friend. These are merely a few of the many endearing words the student-athletes at Northwest Classen High School use to describe multi-sport coach and athletic director Cindy George.

For Coach George, coaching isn’t just her job. It’s her calling.

She doesn’t simply seek to produce great athletes. She strives to develop young, successful adults.

I can trust her with anything.

No matter where a child is raised, kids always have the potential to be surrounded by negative influences. For children growing up in the inner city, that potential is far too prevalent.

In many instances, students in these environments are vulnerable to the false promises of community and refuge that gangs so deceitfully offer.

Although these negative influences are persistent, even they can’t compete with the positive impact of being a part of a team.

We have a family here that you’re more than welcome to join.

Sports don’t just challenge a person’s physical capabilities, they test the human character – the will to overcome adversity.

Thanks to the exceptional sports facilities built and maintained by Fields & Futures, Cindy George has personally witnessed the effects that compassion and opportunity have on her student-athletes.

Brittany Bighorse is the perfect example.

Playing softball under Coach George, she became the first of her siblings to graduate high school and attend college. Every step of the way, Coach George was there to assure Brittany she was stronger than her circumstances.

Coach George’s kindness and support were so profound, Brittany found a way to stay on the team even after graduation – she became the assistant softball coach.

There, and on the many other playing fields rehabilitated and maintained by Fields & Futures, young men and women are able to learn invaluable life lessons and receive the guidance, mentorship, and positive influences missing from their lives.
